Robert was born Jan. 25, 1961 in Mauston to William and Mary (Schultz) Holig. He grew up on the family farm in Cattail Valley. He graduated from Mauston High School in 1979 and took over the family dairy farm. On Aug. 28, 1982, Robert married Joan Frances Miller of Mauston at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mauston. Robert and Joan enjoyed a beautiful farm tour in Europe for their honeymoon. They were blessed with three children and celebrated 30 wonderful years of marriage in August.

Robert was known for his generosity, quiet demeanor and quick wit which attracted many new friendships throughout the years. His passion for farming was evident with the many hours he put into each day, while instilling strong values and work ethic in his family. Robert often said, “You know it’s been a good day when you have to clean up in a mud puddle.” Robert’s innovative ways and desire to build a successful business for his family led to the recent purchase of an additional farm known as Cattail Dairy Farms. On his last healthy day he toured the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI along with his family. Although much of Robert’s time was focused on his farming career, his main joy in life was spending time with his family and watching them grow.

Robert enjoyed deer hunting, traveling and reading farm publications to stay informed of the changing dairy industry. He was involved in the Juneau County Fair Dairy Committee, Juneau County Farm Bureau, Mauston FFA Alumni and was an active member at St. Marys Catholic Church in Lyndon Station. Previous accomplishments and awards include Farm Bureau Young Farmer Award (1986), FFA State Farmer Degree, Dekalb Agriculture Accomplishment Award (1979) and numerous milk quality awards.
