Robert A. Knickmeier

MCFARLAND-Robert A. Knickmeier, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2012.

Robert was born on Feb. 13, 1930, in Madison, the son of William and Burdean (Ellestad) Knickmeier. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Immanuel Lutheran Church, just east of Madison. Robert grew up on the family dairy farm in the Town of Blooming Grove, and graduated from Madison East High School in 1947. He also attended vocational school in Madison, and became a carpenter foreman for Marshall Erdman. Robert had the privilege of working personally with Frank Lloyd Wright on one of Mr. Wright’s “Usonian” homes in the Madison area.

Robert married Wanda (Berthelmann) Knickmeier on July 26, 1952, and she preceded him in death in 2005. Robert, Wanda, and their children lived for many years on their farm in the Town of Berry near Marxville, where they farmed and built houses. Robert was also employed by the State of Wisconsin as a carpenter for many years, and concluded his working years at University Hospital in Madison.

Robert enjoyed family time, travel, fishing and hunting, and was an excellent marksman. One of his favorite sayings was “If you can’t dazzle ’em with brilliance, then you can always baffle ’em with bull—-.” Robert is survived by his five children, Jeff Knickmeier of McFarland, Mike Knickmeier of McFarland, Tom (Tammy) Knickmeier of Cottage Grove, Lisa (Clyde) Kaikuaana of Mazomanie, and Amy (Darrick) Melton of Joliet, Ill. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kelly (Maj. Devin, USAF) Knickmeier Cummings of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rebecca Knickmeier of New York (Manhattan), N.Y., Caroline (Noel) Knickmeier of Madison, Nikki and Jace Kaikuaana of Mazomanie, Kole Knickmeier of Cottage Grove, and Noah Melton of Joliet, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Road AB, McFarland, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Burial will be at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL HOME, 1358 Hwy 51, Stoughton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012, and also at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Robert had strong Christian Faith and knew Jesus as his personal Savior. The Lord is My Shepherd…….

Visitation:
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL HOME, 1358 Hwy 51, Stoughton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012, and also at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

Service:
Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Road AB, McFarland, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012.

Cemetery:
Burial will be at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery.
