Robert A. Gundlach
JANESVILLE–Robert A. Gundlach, age 88, of Janesville, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, at St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital.
He was born in Center Township on Feb. 28, 1926, the son of Arthur and Viola (Splinter) Gundlach and graduated from Evansville High School.
Bob served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Winifred M Holman on June 25, 1947, at St. John Lutheran Church, Janesville. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2005. Bob had been employed in shipping and handling for the Parker Pen Company for 44 ½ years before retiring in 1988. He had also bartended for years at both the Fireside Dinner Theater and the Buckhorn Supper Club. Bob was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was one of the morning counters and attended faithfully every Sunday. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, gambling with his good friend Hermie, and watching the birds and wildlife. Bob was also known by many to enjoy a few Brandy cocktails and always looked forward to the pies on Sunday that Bette Dabson would make for him.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Wayne Holman of Janesville; a special niece, Carol (Jim) Rowe of Sun City West, AZ; best friends, George and Herman; as well as other in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and great neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Roy Poltrock officiating. Burial will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the CHURCH.
