Robber asks for time, takes man’s cellphone at Vilas Park
20-year-old suffers minor injuries in struggle over cellphone, police say
MADISON, Wis. — A Madison resident was attacked and robbed of his cellphone Monday night on the near west side, according to a release.
The 20-year-old victim was sitting on a bench at Vilas Park around 7 p.m. when he was approached by a man who asked for money, but he didn’t have any, police said. The man then asked for the time.
When the victim brought out his cellphone, the robber grabbed it and the two men struggled, according to the release. The robber beat the victim before leaving with his cellphone and backpack.
The robber fled south on a bicycle, police said. The victim suffered minor injuries, but did not seek immediate medical attention.
The robber is described as black, in his 30s, tall and thin. He was wearing a black and grey winter coat, a knit hat and jeans.
