Roads in downtown Madison to be closed Friday for CrossFit Games event

MADISON, Wis. — A number of traffic closures are planned in downtown Madison on Thursday night and Friday due to the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games’ return to the capital city.

A 3.5-mile run from the Alliant Energy Center to the Wisconsin State Capitol Friday morning will cause a number of streets between the two buildings to be closed.

The list includes:

  • John Nolen Drive and South Broom Street, which will see temporary lane closures in both directions between 8:50 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. Friday;
  • West Wilson Street, which will be closed between Broom and South Hamilton streets between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday; and.
  • South Hamilton Street, which will be closed between West Wilson Street and the Capitol from 9 a.m. to roughly 3 p.m. Friday.

In addition, West Mifflin Street between Wisconsin Avenue and State Street and North Carroll Street between State Street and West Washington Avenue will be closed from 6 p.m. Thursday through Friday afternoon.

The public will be able to watch athletes take part in the event, which is being called The Capitol. After running from the Alliant Energy Center to the Capitol, athletes will “perform various weight-carrying movements/exercises using the State Street area adjacent to the Capitol building,” according to a news release.
