River Valley heads to state football final

The River Valley Blackhawks will make their first appearance in a WIAA State Football Championship game when they face St. Croix Central for the Division Four title at 7 pm Thursday at Camp Randall Stadium.

The Blackhawks have a 10-2 record and defeated Two Rivers 34-12 in the state semifinals last Friday to advance to the championship game.

River Valley High School is located in Spring Green which is about a 45 minute drive west of Madison.

The school district includes 13 townships and four villages located in four different counties and the entire area has shown its support for the football team in its playoff run.

“The community’s been excited since this is the first time we’ve been in the state finals and everything and it just feels great to know that everyone’s supporting you” said River Valley senior Ryan Wickman.

Head coach Tim Eastlick added,  “The community has jumped behind these young men totally with being four different communities and other small townships, we’re very spread out but our fans have done a great job coming out and supporting our kids. We had a great following at Heartland Friday night and we expect the same Thursday in Madison.”
