Ritual with sidelines beard turns to Packers good luck charm
Aaron Rodgers spotted tugging Jeremy Wilcox's beard during Sunday's game
WAUSAU, Wis. — Did a lucky beard lead the Green Bay Packers to a divisional championship? Some players apparently think so!
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers began the tradition of tugging Jeremy Wilcox’s beard for luck before a game. After that, the team captain performed the ritual before each kickoff this season.
Wilcox works with Sideline Communications for the Packers.
He said at first, team members thought his facial hair was humorous.
“They all started laughing and talking about my beard, and pretty quick Aaron Rodgers came over and he had to look at it, and give me a little thumbs up and that evolved into coming over and giving it a little tug before the game started,” Wilcox said. “It seems to have worked. I mean, they’ve won all their home games so I don’t know if it’s a lucky beard! But I figure well, you know, if it works, it works.”
Wilcox said he plans on keeping the beard for the time being. It took him about two years to grow it.
