Rita M. Owen
Rita M. Owen, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at St. Mary’s Care Center, Madison.
She was born on September 2, 1926 in Durand, WI the oldest of 6 children born to Bernard and Margaret (Harmon) Carlisle. She married Wayne L. Owen on September 4, 1948 in Durand, WI. For many years Rita worked in the art framing business, culminating in owning, Forster Framing.
Rita and Wayne were founding members of St. Peter Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Ladies Guild. She also belonged to the Madison Catholic Woman’s Club. Her favorite pastimes included playing bridge and sewing.
She is survived by her five children: Roberta (Gordon) Ferguson, Susanne (Don) Steinmetz, Kathryn (Bruce) Lyons, Mark (Rita) Owen and Dennis (Karen) Owen; eight grandchildren, Amy, Sara, William, Christina, Matthew, Peter, Kelly and Melanie; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Helen Steer and MargaretAnn Marsh along with many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Wayne; her parents and brothers, John, Robert and William (infant).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., with Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin, your local food bank or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sandy, Joyce, the staff at St. Mary’s Care Center, Home Health United Hospice and Dr. Orest Kostelyna.
