Richland Center passes ordinance to ban sale of dogs and cats for research
RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. — Richland Center passed an ordinance that bans the sale of dogs and cats for research Tuesday night.
According to a Facebook post from The Humane Society of the United States – Wisconsin, the Richland Center City Council took up the ordinance.
“This is groundbreaking, but of greater importance, this reflects the values of this community,” the post reads. “There are far better alternatives that will move the needle faster when it comes to studying human disease.”
A similar battle was ongoing in Spring Green throughout 2019, where the village board denied a couple’s appeal to have a dog breeding facility in October.
