Richard D. Olson
Mount Horeb/Madison – Richard D. Olson, age 91, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He was born on July 3, 1926 in Madison, the son of Peter and Milda (Anderson) Olson.
Richard was a lifelong resident of Mount Horeb. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Richard was stationed in the Philippians. He has worked as a custodian for the State of Wisconsin for 33 years until his retirement. Richard was a faithful member of Holy Cross Church and a member of the VFW Post #1318. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed bingo, bowling, fishing and gardening. He wanted to make sure everyone knew that he had a very happy life. Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was survived by his four children, Regeana (Dan) York-Harris of Edgerton, Lynn (Mike) Raether of Columbus, Steven (Kris) Olson of Mount Horeb and Mark (Eileen) Olson Belleville, 11 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virgine L. Olson, his son, Richard E. Olson, three sisters Violet, Marlyn and Polly and four brothers Alvin, Carmen, James and Roger.
Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Avenue, Madison, WI 53704 on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm and again on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 am to 11 am. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at York Cemetery in Blanchardville at 2:30 pm.
