Police have identified the 5-year-old girl who was shot and killed while sitting on her grandfather’s lap in a Milwaukee home.

Police said Laylah Petersen was struck by a bullet that went through the wall of her grandparents’ house and struck her in the head. Police Chief Edward Flynn has described the Thursday night shooting as targeted but says there’s no clear motive as yet.

Police are still seeking suspects.

Law enforcement agencies are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.

Flynn said two people approached the house and fired numerous times just after 6 p.m. Thursday.

Capt. Eric Moore said the home was targeted and police are searching for suspects. Police said officers have no motive or suspects in the shooting. Authorities are asking for the public’s help.

Anyone with information is asked to call Milwaukee police.

Laylah is the third child under 13 to die in a homicide in Milwaukee this year.

Police said the girl’s grandparents lived at the house.
