Reverend Deacon William A. “Bill” Stack

OREGON – The Reverend Deacon William A. “Bill” Stack, age 68, entered into eternal life on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at home in Oregon, Wis. surrounded by his family.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1945, in Evergreen Park, Ill. to Thomas J. and Zita C. (Nelligan) Stack. He attended St. Joseph College in Rennselaer, Ind. and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force after four years of military service. On Aug. 3, 1968, he married Susan Nordhaus at St. Therese of the Little Flower Parish in Chicago and was graced by the births of a daughter, Kathryn, and three sons, William, Patrick and Matthew.

On Dec. 12, 1987, Bill was ordained a Permanent Deacon at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in La Crosse by Bishop John J. Paul, D.D., Bishop of La Crosse. He served as a deacon at St. Mark Parish, Rothschild, in the Diocese of La Crosse, for five years prior to moving to the Diocese of Madison. On December 15, 2000, Deacon Stack was incardinated into the Diocese of Madison under Bishop William H. Bullock. He served in the capacity of Deacon at St. John the Baptist Parish, Waunakee; St. Joseph Parish, Madison, and St. Joseph Parish, Edgerton. He also was appointed Chaplain for the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Deacon Stack retired from the UW Hospitals and Clinics in 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, William (Amy), Patrick (Mandy Haak), Matthew (Catherine); his daughter, Kathryn; four grandchildren, Autumn, Aidan, Kiera and Audrey; his sister, Zita Crowley; and his nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main Street, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014. Rev. Monsignor James Gunn, Pastor, St. John the Baptist Parish, Waunakee, will be the main celebrant with the Rev. Gary Wankerl, Pastor, Holy Mother of Consolation Church, as homilist. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Holy Mass on Friday. Deacons are encouraged to sit together for the Holy Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, Agrace HospiceCare or a charity of their choice.
