Resident puts out curtain fire with pitcher of water, officials say
MADISON, Wis. — A resident of a downtown apartment building used a pitcher of water Saturday to put out curtains that had caught fire, officials said.
Firefighters were called around 2:30 p.m. to the 1000 block of East Washington Avenue to the Lyric Apartments for reports of some curtains that were on fire, according to a release.
Crews arrived on scene and were told curtains in a 9th floor apartment had caught fire, but that the fire was out, officials said.
The resident told firefighters he was sitting on the couch when he heard a small pop, according to the release. When he looked up, he saw the curtains were on fire, so he grabbed a pitcher of water from the kitchen and doused the fire.
The fire caused an estimated $3,000 in damage. The cause is still under investigation.
