Reds beat Brewers in ninth, 6-5
Hamilton's single gives Cincinnati the win
MILWAUKEE — Billy Hamilton drove in Zach Cozart with a single in the ninth inning as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park Friday night, 6-5.
Hamilton got the game winning hit off Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez (2-2) who came into the game with the score tied 5-5 in the ninth.
The Brewers spotted the Reds a 5-1 lead thanks to four Milwaukee errors.
Starting pitcher Matt Garza went seven innings allowing seven hits on five runs, only one of the runs was earned.
The Brewers rallied with four runs in the seventh inning to tie the game.
Khris Davis homered, Scooter Gennett had an RBI single, Jonathan Lucroy added another run on an infield single, then Carlos Gomez tied the game with a run-scoring double to make it 5-5.
But Hamilton’s hit in the ninth won the game for the Reds.
Jonathon Broxton (2-0) got the win in relief. Aroldis Chapman pitched the bottom of the ninth to pick up his 11th save.
