Redistricting fight shows lawmakers not interested in accountability

The willingness of state Republican legislators to waste millions of tax dollars on unfair and unethical political district maps that taxpayers don’t want is the latest evidence of lawmakers’ galling disinterest in good government and accountability.

Not only have the federal courts now weighed in on the “unconstitutional partisan gerrymandering” in which both parties have participated for decades, but one court has ordered the districts be redrawn.

That the order is for the district lines be redrawn by the same partisan, power and money-addicted lawmakers who drew them in the first place, and still Republicans in control are appealing the decision, shows how cynical and deceitful they have become.

Lawmakers have been given the opportunity to reform the redistricting process once and for all. They’ve chosen to protect their fiefdoms at all costs and billing you for the effort. They simply don’t care.
