Rear-end of tractor leaves corn spilled on highway
LANCASTER, Wis. — A crash involving a van and a tractor pulling a gravity box full of corn spilled corn all over a highway in Lancaster Tuesday night, according to officials.
Robert Cooley, 59, of Lancaster, was operating a 7110 Case International tractor pulling a gravity box full of corn west on Highway 81. Joseph Schneider, 23, of Dubuque was westbound on Highway 81 in a 2015 Ford Transit Van, according to a report from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Schneider rear-ended the gravity box, and the gravity box overturned and separated from the tractor causing corn to spill on the roadway, officials said.
Schneider was cited for inattentive driving. Cooley was cited for operating an implement of husbandry on the roadway after hours of darkness without reflectors, according to the report.
The tractor and the gravity box are owned by Randy Bendorf, of Lancaster. The van is owned by Dairy Lab Services of Dubuque, Iowa, officials said.
