Raymond Wesley Scott
JANESVILLE – Raymond Wesley Scott, age 94, of Janesville, went to his Heavenly reward on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at his home in La Prairie Township. He was born on Jan. 17, 1918, the son of Ray and Edna (Van Hise) Scott. He married Catherine Marie Wellnitz on Jan. 17, 1942, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville. She preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2012. Raymond lived his entire life on a farm in La Prairie Township previously owned by his grandfather and father. He and Catherine spent their entire marriage of over 70 years raising and loving their family and working together on their farm. Raymond graduated from Janesville High School in 1934. He was a member of the La Prairie 4-H Club for many years raising and showing draft horses. A trip to Washington D.C. with a 4-H group was a treasured memory. He was a charter member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, checkers, softball, volleyball, and was an avid reader. He served many terms as a La Prairie Township Supervisor and one term on the Janesville School Board. He was the Wisconsin State Checker Champion numerous times. He enjoyed traveling to Midwestern states to play checkers and sightsee. Raymond was a wonderful Father and Provider who was always there to encourage and support his children.
Raymond will be missed by his surviving family, Frank (Martha) Scott, Joseph (Kathleen) Scott, Paul (Carol) Scott, Monica (David) Wheeler and Michael (Susan) Scott; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law: Johanna Cash, Josephine Bielenberg, Joseph (Beatrice) Wellnitz, Harry Wellnitz, Rosemary (James) Pakes and Helen (Robert) Sweeney; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Edna; wife, Catherine; brother, Harold (Helen) Scott; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Alfred (June) Wellnitz, Cecelia (Wenzel) Schneider, Bernard (Katherine) Wellnitz and Frank (Margaret) Wellnitz; and in-laws, Cecil Cash, Inez Wellnitz and Joseph Bielenberg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Randy Timmerman officiating. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY and again on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Special thank you’s to the staff of Home Instead and Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. who were instrumental in allowing Dad to spend his final days at home, as he had always wanted. The family and caregivers made sure Raymond was comfortable and that someone was there to play cards.
