Raphael Francis “Ray” Michek
Raphael Francis “Ray” Michek, age 88, of Highland, was reunited with the love of his life, Jean, on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
Ray was born on November 27, 1932, in the Village of Highland to Alfred and Teresa (Rose) Michek Sr. Ray graduated from Highland High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Ray married Mary Jean “Jean” Kosharek on January 12, 1954, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Ray and Jean farmed in Highland Township until “moving to town” in 1975. Ray was a talented International Harvester mechanic creating strong friendships with area farmers and their families through his work for Fillback Implement. He continued those relationships while supervising the Morning Coffee Clutch at the bottom of Main Street each day for many years.
Together, Ray and Jean created a legacy including ten children, 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, with one on the way. Ray enjoyed traveling, reading and listening to novels set in the great American West, going for rides and welcoming visitors to his home. Ray was a dedicated member of Ss. Anthony & Philip Parish serving as Eucharistic Minister and an Usher for a number of years. He served on the Highland Volunteer Fire Department and was a proud member of Robert Kail American Legion Post #422.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean on May 28, 2016; two daughters, Ellen Wepking and Sandi Perrin and a sister, Rosella “Rosie” Kosharek; a brother, Cletus “Bud” Michek and a brother-in-law, Robert Hennessey.
Ray is survived by five daughters, Beth (Tom) Skala of Highland; Pat (David) Keyes of Mineral Point; Lauri (Tom) Wienkes of Highland; Debbie (Mark) Fortner of Wauzeka and Amy Michek (Mark) of Dodgeville; three sons, Steve (Mary) and Mike (Ellen) of Dodgeville and Tom (Lynn) of Highland; two sons-in-law, Tom Perrin and Rob (Patti) Wepking; 21 grandchildren; 21great grandchildren (with one on the way); a sister, Ramona Hennessey; three brothers, Melvin (Kate); Alfred Jr. (Rosemary) and Gilbert (Theresa) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Ss. Anthony & Philip Catholic Church in Highland with Fr. Jim Murphy officiating. Burial will in St. Anthony’s Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Robert Kail American Legion Post #422. Friends may call at the church on Saturday after 10:00 A.M.
