Racine man charged after threatening neighbor with machete
Police fatally shot dog in ensuing standoff
RACINE, Wis. — A 55-year-old Racine man has been charged in connection with a more than 3 1/2 hour standoff in which police fatally shot his dog.
Kurt Hanson was charged Monday with first-degree recklessly endangering safety, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Authorities say Hanson threatened a neighbor with a machete before the standoff Saturday.
Neighbors called 911 after Hanson allegedly threatened a neighbor and her dog and then got the machete during an argument with her relative.
Authorities said he threatened to kill responding police officers and threatened to have his dog attack them. Police say they shot the dog when Hanson released it from his home.
They said Hanson eventually fell asleep while on the phone with officers and SWAT officers were able to arrest him.
