Portage woman grows flower field after devastating loss

After the loss of her loved one, a Portage woman has decided to build her own ‘field of dreams’ with the goal of helping others who struggle with their grief.

Joanne Alt’s husband, Scott, committed suicide last October after battling with depression. Instead of allowing her sorrow to envelope her, Joanne decided to try and prevent others from feeling alone.

“I’ve always had this dream of having a big garden,” she says.

Now, she has a flower farm a half-acre in size – open to the public for picking, to bring flowers to a friend who needs it most.

“My message is to spread love to other people, and to pass it on to somebody in need of love,” Joanne says. “Just by giving a simple flower to somebody, you can change their world forever and give them hope.”

You can visit Joanne’s Garden of Angels outside Portage daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. You can also find the farm on Facebook at “Garden of Angels Portage.”
