Portage inmate charged with attempted homicide
Suspect due in court Nov. 25
PORTAGE, Wis. — A Wisconsin prison inmate has been charged with attempted homicide after an employee at the Columbia Correctional Institution was stabbed in the facility’s library.
Cesar DeLeon of Milwaukee is charged with first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon, as well as battery by prisoners by use of a dangerous weapon. He’s accused of turning a blunt-ended pair of scissors into a weapon and attacking the staff member on Oct. 27 in the prison’s library.
A criminal complaint says DeLeon grabbed the staff member by the throat and stabbed her several times in the head and left side before another inmate tried to stop him. The Portage Daily Register reports DeLeon stabbed the inmate in the back before prison guards intervened.
Court records don’t indicate an attorney.
