Police investigating a shoplifting report in a Woodman’s found the suspect had left her child alone at a neighbor’s home while she was shoplifting, according to officials.

The incident took place Friday morning at a Woodman’s supermarket on the west side of Madison.

The 35-year-old suspect told police she had left her 2-year-old child with a neighbor.

Police went to the address of the neighbor but nobody answered the door. Police then heard the child, and entered. The child was alone with a dirty diaper.

Child Protective Services has taken custody of the child.

The suspect is facing charges of child neglect.
