Police: Tobacco thefts at 8 area gas stations likely connected

A smash-and-grab burglar hit a PDQ on West Broadway last week was the eighth December business break-in in which tobacco products were stolen from Dane County convenience stores, police said.

Madison police crime analysts place the value of stolen merchandise — — mostly cigarettes — at about $40,000.

Police said Tuesday that there have been two men seen in surveillance images of the burglaries.

One is a black man, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a stocky build. On Tuesday police provided surveillance images of this burglar.

The second burglar has been described as a man with an average build.

It is believed most, if not all, of the tobacco theft crimes are connected. Anyone with information is asked to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
