Police, sheriff investigate area poker-game heists

Two masked men carrying handguns robbed people participating in a poker tournament at a tavern in the town of Westport overnight Wednesday, Dane County sheriff’s officials said.

Twelve people were participating in a poker tournament at the Willows Tavern when the robbery happened, officials said.

No one was injured.

Madison police said the department is investigating a similar armed robbery that took place at a poker game March 25 inside an office building on the 2300 block of International Lane.

Madison police said several men were robbed of money, phones and jewelry in the March 25 incident.

Both cases involve two armed and masked men showing up at poker games. Officials with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Madison police are working to determine if there are any connections between the two incidents, a police spokesman said Friday afternoon.
