Police: Resident scares away would-be burglar with flashlight

A Madison woman scared a would-be robber away after he broke into her East Dayton Street home Friday night, according to a release from Madison police.

The burglar used a rock to break the glass of a door, and got into the home in the 1200 block of East Dayton Street around 10:50 p.m., officials said.

A 34-year-old resident heard the noise and shined a flashlight on the burglar, according to the release.

Police said the burglar likely fled empty-handed, because the woman said nothing appeared to be missing.
