Police release film of Wisconsin officer’s 2007 shooting

MPD: Kenny exonerated in Robinson shooting
MPD officer Matt Kenny

Police in Madison have released footage of a fatal shooting in 2007 involving the same police officer who killed a man last month.

Officer Matt Kenny killed 19-year-old Tony Robinson on March 6 after responding to calls that Robinson had attacked two people and was running in traffic. Police say Robinson assaulted Kenny before the officer shot him.

The footage released Monday in response to a request from The Associated Press was squad car video of a 2007 incident in which Kenny fatally shot Ronald Brandon. Kenny was cleared of any wrongdoing.

The squad car video was redacted so it doesn’t show the actual shooting, but it does appear to show Brandon pointing a gun at officers before he was shot. His gun turned out to be a pellet gun.
