Police offer $5K reward in suspicious camper, trampoline fires
Sauk Prairie police are offering a reward for information about a series of fires that were reported overnight Friday and into Saturday morning.
The Sauk Prairie Police Department said in an alert Saturday morning that residents should check their property for any fire damage, as three reports of fires in the area came in within a span of a few hours.
Chief Gerald Strunz said the first call came in shortly after midnight in Sauk City. A wood pile inside a dog kennel had been set on fire. A second call came in at 2:11 a.m. in Prairie du Sac where a camper had been set on fire. Strunz said the camper was a total loss. A third call came in at 11 a.m. that a trampoline had been set on fire. The trampoline fire was two blocks away from the camper fire.
Investigators are now looking into a fourth suspicious fire from a week earlier that may be connected, officials said. Three of the four fire have happened along the Broadway Street corridor in Prairie du Sac.
Police asked anyone with pictures of the camper before the fire to send them to the department. It wasn’t immediately clear if there were any injuries as a result of the suspected arson fires.
Officials said anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 from the Wisconsin Arson Insurance Council.
Residents were encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Sauk County Communications Center at 608-355-4495 or the Wisconsin Arson Tip Line at 1-800-362-3005.
