Man faces two counts of battery and a probation violation
MADISON, Wis. — A 21-year-old man was arrested after being accused of punching two people near the 500 block of State Street.
Matthew Leonard, of Madison, faces two counts of battery after police were contacted by the victims, a 24-old woman and 21-year-old man.
The victims, a brother and sister, said they saw a lot of police activity and noticed a man, later identified as Matthew Leonard, running down the street.
They told police they made a comment about Leonard eluding officers, and he heard and punched the woman in the face 3-5 times.
Leonard was then temporarily subdued by the female’s brother and friends, but managed to break away and flee the area.
Madison police found Leonard in the 500 block of University Ave.
Leonard later claimed he was the victim, and when asked if he punched anyone, he said, “I got jumped, and I don’t think I was in the wrong,” according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
Leonard was taken to the Dane County Jail, where he faces two counts of battery and a probation violation.
