Police: Man physically fought with son before OWI arrest
Chidester's arrested fifth time on drunken driving charges
JANESVILLE, Wis. — A man is being held at the Rock County Jail after police arrested and charged him with his fifth drunken driving offense, according to Janesville police.
Officers arrived at 3315 U.S. Highway South lot 71 at around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday after a witness reported seeing James Chidester Jr. driving a car while intoxicated, police said.
After an investigation, police said Chidester had just gotten into a physical fight with his 16-year-old son. They said the fight started when the son took the car keys from an intoxicated Chidester.
The son was treated and released from a local hospital for injuries to his jaw, police said.
They said Chidester failed standard field sobriety tests and the results of a preliminary breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 percent.
Chidester was treated at a local hospital for an eye injury and had a OWI legal blood draw, according to police.
He is being held in jail pending an initial court appearance.
Police said Chidester’s son was referred to juvenile authorities on a charge of substantial battery.
