Police: Man mugged near East Washington Street

Police said a Madison man was mugged Thursday morning on Oak Street near East Washington Avenue.

The Madison Police Department said a 46-year-old man was walking when two men tried to rob him. During the encounter, he says one hit him in the head with a handgun. He told police he was able to get away with all of his possessions.

The victim told police he believes there is a possibility this was a targeted assault.
Police said the victim reported the robbery early Friday.

The report described the two suspects one as male, black, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 170 pounds., 25-30 years old, muscular build, shaved or bald head, wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans, and brown leather boots. He was armed with a handgun. The other as male, black, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 130 to 140 pounds, 25-30 years old, slender build, hair pulled back in ponytail, thin mustache, wearing a dark blue cashmere jacket.

No witnesses contacted police to report this crime.
