Police: Man didn’t know value of stolen ‘Magic’ cards
Man said be bought cards from 'dude' downtown
MADISON, Wis. — A man caught with stolen “Magic the Gathering” cards worth $3,000 told police he bought the cards for $80 from a “dude” downtown.
A 26-year-old Madison man told police that when he discovered the cards and other property missing from his car parked in front of his Bluff Street apartment Wednesday morning, he called a local card dealer to alert him.
The man told Misty Mountain Games and Diversions at 4672 Cottage Grove Rd. that his collection included a 4-set of very rare “Kor Firewalker” promo cards.
Police said Matthew J. Organ, 26, walked into the store around noon on Thursday with cards for sale that matched the description of the cards provided by the victim. An employee called police, who arrived while Organ was still in the store.
Organ told police he purchased the cards and was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property.
Police said the man was high on marijuana and Adderall. He was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an illegally obtained prescription.
