Police: Man breaks driver’s window in road rage fit
Arrested man says car was tailgating him
MADISON, Wis. — A Madison man was arrested Sunday for allegedly punching out a car window on the North side of Madison in a road rage incident, according to police.
Joseph Buell, 34, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property after police said Buell exited his car at an intersection on Sherman Avenue at about 5:40 p.m. and approached a Honda occupied by a 21-year-old woman, a 27-year-old man and a 3-year-old girl, all from Middleton.
According to the report, Buell punched out the Honda’s driver-side window, projecting broken glass into the vehicle, including into the Honda’s back seat area where the toddler was seated.
The victims told police that Buell had been driving erratically, cutting off other vehicles, and had aggressively swerved at their Honda.
Buell told police the Honda had been tailgating him and he was trying to get away from the vehicle on the road.
Police said officers stopped Buell not far from the scene of the incident and saw Buell’s hand was cut and bleeding.
According to the report, upon arrest, Buell offered to pay for the broken window.
Police said Buell was taken to Dane County Jail.
