Police said a Middleton man was attacked early Friday in downtown Madison outside of Cardinal Bar at 400 E. Wilson St.

The Madison Police Department said a 24-year-old was punched in the head by one man, and appeared to lose consciousness.

Witnesses said as the victim hit the ground four other suspects joined the primary assailant, all of whom punched and kicked the man.

The suspects fled before police arrived.

The report describes the main suspect is described as male, black, 6 feet 3 inches, 250 to 275 pounds, medium complexion, wearing black vest over a black long-sleeve shirt and a black knit cap with a “ball on the top.”

The victim was intoxicated and could not provide much information, police said. He was not seriously injured.
