Police: Man attacked at hotel after arranging date through internet

Police: Man spits into, jumps on hood, roof of car, scares 2 women inside

A man who planned to meet a date at an east side hotel Monday night instead met a man who brandished a knife and tried to rob him, according to Madison police.

The incident happened in the 2100 block of East Springs Drive around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

According to police, the victim arranged for a date at the hotel through an Internet site. Police said the victim was told which stairwell to go up to meet his date. But when he got to the stairwell, police said he was met by the man with the knife.

Police said no one was injured in the attempted robbery. Police are looking for a white man in his late 20s, 6 feet tall with a muscular build last seen wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt with a design pattern on the chest. Anyone who knows anything about the incident is asked to call Madison police.

Police added Wednesday that the victim was able to keep possession of his money and the would-be robber fled empty handed.
