Police: Man arrested for exposure at Madison beach
Lifeguard reported disturbing behavior at Olin Beach
MADISON, Wis. — A Madison man was arrested Wednesday for exposure after a city lifeguard said he masturbated at a city beach, Madison police said.
Edward Helman, 50, was arrested, according to Madison Police Department spokesman Joel DeSpain.
Police said the 21-year-old female lifeguard at Olin Park beach was very disturbed when she saw the man plop down in shallow water and masturbate while staring at her about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
A family walked past the man while he was committing the act, according to a police incident report.
After about three minutes, Helman left the water and stood behind the lifeguard smoking a cigarette, police said.
The lifeguard, a city of Madison employee, reported the incident to her supervisor, who then called police.
The suspect, who was riding a bike and towing a trailer full of garbage, was stopped a short distance from the beach and arrested, police said.
