Police: Man arrested after firing handgun on State Street
Gun not pointed at anyone during incident
MADISON, Wis. — A Fitchburg man faces weapons charges after police said he fired a handgun in the air multiple times after he left a business on State Street early Thursday morning.
The incident happened in the 100 block of State Street just before 2 a.m. Thursday.
According to police, James Slattery was leaving a business on State Street around closing time when Slattery pulled out a handgun and fired it multiple times in the air. Police said there was no altercation before this incident, and it doesn’t appear the gun was pointed at anyone when it was fire.
Slattery was tracked down nearby shortly after the incident and admitted to firing the gun in the air. He faces charges of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and carrying a handgun where alcoholic beverages may be sold.
