Police investigating unexplained injuries at Meriter Hospital’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit
Hospital officials reported the injuries to police

MADSION, Wis. — The Madison Police Department Special Victims Unit is investigating several unexplained injuries at Meriter Hospital’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
Hospital authorities contacted the Madison Police Department last week, and detectives are investigating the case.

Parents with children who recently had a baby inside the Meriter Newborn Intensive Care Unit told News 3 they are concerned for their child’s safety and want their baby to have an exam.
So far no arrests have been made in relation to the investigation.

Officials with the hospital told News 3 they are “heartbroken to recently learn of patient safety concerns regarding some of our youngest patients.”
In a statement, officials with the hospital said they had notified law enforcement and local authorities about the concerns and are actively cooperating with the ongoing investigations. The statement read in part:
“As the police investigation continues, we continue our own internal review and have implemented supplemental monitoring and security measures to enhance supervision in our Newborn Intensive Care Unit until the investigation is complete.”

Hospital officials also said they are informing families involved in the investigation.
This is an open and ongoing investigation. The Madison Police Department is not releasing any other information at this time.
