Police investigating Fitchburg attempted armed robbery

Fitchburg police are investigating an attempted armed robbery and battery that occurred on the city’s north side Sunday morning.

Police said in a news release that officers were called to the intersection of Longford Terrace and Portarligton Lane around 7:15 a.m. on a report of an attempted armed robbery. Officers found a victim who had been punched multiple times.

Police said the two men drove up next to the victim, who was jogging, exited the vehicle and demanded money and property. One of the men displayed a handgun and pointed it at the victim, police said.

The men fled west on Longford Terrace by car, police said.

The man who displayed the gun is described as a black man with a slender build, approximately 25 years old and 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a brown Carhart-type coat, the release said.

The second man, who was driving the vehicle, was described as a heavyset black man wearing a sweatshirt. The vehicle was described as a brown Ford Taurus or Chevy Malibu-style sedan, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fitchburg police at 608-270-4300 or Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
