Police investigate string of burglaries from unlocked homes in Watertown
WATERTOWN, Wis. — Watertown police are investigating a series of burglaries that occurred overnight Wednesday in unlocked homes.
Officials said sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday burglars entered four unlocked homes and stole purses, keys, cash and cellphones.
The burglaries happened in the 1100 block of Center Street, 1100 block of North Second Street, 1100 block of Prospect Avenue and 700 block of North Water Street, according to a release.
“In each of these burglaries, the exterior doors were unlocked and the homes were occupied. The suspect(s) did not venture far into the home and stole valuables in close proximity to the unlocked door,” Police Chief Tim Roets said in the release. “Purses and valuables were taken off of kitchen counters and tables. The suspect(s) quietly enter and exit quickly with what they can easily grab.”
Police are asking for residents who may have seen suspicious activity in their yards or who have home security systems in the area to call 920-261-6660.
Roets reminded residents to lock their doors to prevent easy access to their homes and valuables.
