Police investigate homicide after finding 2 women with gunshot wounds near interstate

JANESVILLE, Wis. — The Janesville Police Department is investigating the death of two women after they were found injured near the interstate Monday morning.

Police responded to the 3200 block of Midvale Drive at 3:17 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, police found two women suffering from gunshot wounds. The women were transported to a local hospital where they later died.

During a news conference Monday evening, Janesville police said both women were from Janesville. One was 27-years-old and the other was 30-years-old.

Security footage from a nearby TA Express shows the women were together at the gas station at 2 a.m. The vehicle the women were scene in at the gas station, which is registered to one of the victims, was later recovered near Hoffman Estates, Ill. at 4:30 a.m.

Police said they believe the violent attack happened at the location the women were found.

The victims’ names will not be released until the medical examiner completes the autopsies and the victims’ families are notified.
