Police investigate death of 51-year-old man

Pedestrian struck by bicyclist suffering severe injuries

Police are investigating what a spokesman called a “sudden” death in the city of Beloit Saturday.

Beloit police Capt. Dan Risse said officers responded to a report of a man down on in the 500 block of East Grand Avenue at 6:47 a.m. A passerby had called police.

Risse said the department is investigating the death of the 51-year-old Beloit man as a sudden death. An autopsy is scheduled Sunday morning to determine the cause. Risse said the death was not firearm-related.

Risse said Saturday that until police know the cause of death, it’s difficult to determine if there’s a danger to the public. An alert Saturday morning said there was no immediate safety threat.

“We don’t see a danger to the public,” Risse said. “(But) until we know (the medical examiner’s ruling) … it’s really hard to say.”

Police said the man was found in an area where he lives.

In an advisory from police Saturday morning, police asked residents to avoid the 500 block of East Grand Avenue.
