Police: Impaired driver fails to stop at sign, hits police SUV

An officer was injured when an impaired driver struck his police vehicle in Beloit early Thursday, police said.

Beloit police said a car struck a marked police SUV at 2:02 a.m. on Madison Road at McKinley Avenue.

The driver who struck the SUV failed to stop at a stop sign, police said. The sergeant driving the police vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Police said Thursday afternoon that the sergeant had been treated and was released from the hospital.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash, and the other driver was arrested on suspicion of causing injury while operating under the influence of a controlled substance, according to the report.
