Police: Group of suspected armed robbers face similar charges in another county

A group of suspected armed robbers already facing charges in the robberies of a gas station in Madison and a fast-food restaurant in Fitchburg are suspected of similar crimes in Walworth County, officials said.

The Whitewater Police Department said it recommended charges Thursday against Nathan M. Etheridge, 26, Eric J. Fairchild, 34 and Ryan Haynes, 42, in connection with the robbery Dec. 6 at the La Preferida grocery store on West Main Street.

A news release Friday from police said Etheredge, Fairchild and Haynes originally planned to drive to a neighboring community to rob a bank, but instead chose to rob La Preferida in Whitewater because they were more familiar with the store.

Whitewater police detectives recommended charges including:

3 counts of armed robbery against Etheridge

3 counts of party to the crime of armed robbery against Fairchild

1 count of armed robbery and 2 counts of party to the crime of armed robbery against Haynes

Detectives also filed charges with the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office in connection with an armed robbery that took place on March 10, 2016, at Subway at 757 E. Milwaukee St.

Police said 52-year-old Gregory L. Brackinridge, of Elkhorn, was charged with two counts of burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon, three counts of battery and four counts of possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. Police said Brackinridge was taken into custody on Aug. 8 by the Madison Police Department regarding a home invasion.

According to a news release, Whitewater detectives linked evidence, including GPS records from the vehicle he was allegedly driving at the time of the robbery, to Brackinridge.

Whitewater police said Brackinridge’s parole has been revoked and he was returned to prison pending his court appearances.

Police said Friday that Etheridge, Fairchild and Haynes were in the Dane County Jail on armed robbery charges through the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.
