Police: Drunken driving suspect nearly hits police car
Woman was driving east in westbound lanes early Saturday morning
MADISON, Wis. — A woman faces drunken driving charges after she nearly drove into a Madison police squad car early Saturday morning, according to a release.
Rachel L. McCartney, 39, of Sun Prairie, was driving east in the westbound lanes of the 4300 block of East Washington Avenue just after 1 a.m., police said. There was a baby in the back seat of the vehicle and she had her bright lights on.
The officer did a U-turn and turned on the squad’s emergency lights to get McCartney’s attention and to alert oncoming vehicles of the situation, according to the release.
The driver finally stopped at the Zeier Road intersection and was arrested on a tentative charge of second-offense operating while intoxicated with a passenger under 16 years of age, and was cited for driving the wrong way on a divided highway, failure to dim high beams and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Police released the child to another adult.Madison crime map
