Police: Concerned citizen saved elderly woman
Citizen checked on woman during heat wave
MADISON, Wis. — A concerned citizen likely saved the life of an elderly woman during last week’s historic heat wave, according to Madison police.
Authorities said the citizen became worried about the 85-year-old woman when she did not pick up her phone or open her door. The elderly woman lived on the second floor of an East Washington Avenue apartment that did not have air conditioning.
Police said the elderly victim did not drive nor did she have any family involved in her life.
The concerned citizen had the property manager check on the victim on Saturday. She was found unresponsive on her bathroom floor.
Police said she was taken to the hospital with what appeared to be heat-related problems.
