Police ask for help finding attacker who told woman ‘I put hands on women,’ broke her jaw
MADISON, Wis. — Police are looking for a man who officers believe attacked a woman, breaking her jaw in late September.
Madison police said a woman suffered serious injuries when she was attacked at 12:45 a.m. outside a bar on West Gilman Street Sept. 30.
On Thursday, police said 27-year-old Ralph J. Mitchell Jr., of Fitchburg, is wanted on charges of substantial battery. Anyone with information on Mitchell’s whereabouts is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014, police said.
The 23-year-old woman had been in a bar with friends the night she was attacked when a couple of men tried to “chat them up,” according to the report. The woman told the men they were not interested in meeting people.
One of the men confronted her outside of the bar, police said. He told her that he hits women. As she continued to ask to be left alone, he said: “I’m going to knock you out. I put hands on women!”
Police said the woman was punched multiple times in the face, suffering many injuries including a broken jaw.
Police were called during the attack and the woman’s assailant dashed off as he learned officers were on their way.
