Police arrest ‘well-known’ drug dealer
A Madison man who police said is a “well-known” drug dealer was arrested on suspicion of drug charges Monday.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department said a two-months-long drug investigation led to a search of 23-year-old Zachary A. Czerkas’s home on the 900 block of Haywood Drive.
UWPD spokesman Marc Lovicott said the case originated from a drug incident near campus in 2014, but that police could not share details on that part of the investigation on Thursday afternoon.
Police said Czerkas was arrested at the downtown Madison home without incident.
Lovicott said Czerkas is not a UW student and not affiliated with the university.
According to the report, Czerkas is on federal probation for manufacturing marijuana stemming from an arrest in early 2010. In that case, he was found guilty of growing more than 600 marijuana plants.
The recent investigation that resulted in Czerkas’s arrest on suspicion of delivery of marijuana and maintaining a drug trafficking dwelling Monday was a combination of efforts from the UWPD and the Dane County Narcotics Task Force, police said.
