PORTAGE, Wis. — Three adults and two minors have been arrested after police said they led officers on a pursuit in two stolen vehicles in Columbia County earlier this month.

In a news release Thursday, the Portage Police Department said officers saw a vehicle in the city’s downtown on June 9 that had been reported stolen from Madison. When the officers tried to stop the vehicle, it and another vehicle took off, leading police and Columbia County deputies on a chase onto Interstate 39/90/94.

Eventually, police were able to arrest the occupants of one of the stolen vehicles on the interstate just north of the Columbia/Dane County line. The other vehicle eluded officers as it continued into the Madison area.

The release said as of Wednesday, detectives had arrested all five people in connection with the case.

Online court records show Taquirria Smith, 19, of Sun Prairie, and Samya McReynolds, 18, of Madison, each face a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle without consent – passenger. McReynolds also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of THC.

Smith was given a $500 cash bond and McReynolds was given a $500 signature bond.

An 18-year-old from Windsor was also arrested, but online court records did not list any charges as of Thursday afternoon. As such, News 3 Now is not naming them at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court. Police did not provide the names or ages of the two minors arrested or say who was driving either stolen vehicle.
