Police: 21-year-old led officer on 95 mph chase before crash

Deputies: Reckless driving leads to OWI arrest

A 21-year-old Beaver Dam man was arrested on numerous charges after leading police on a chase that reached speeds of 95 mph, according to the Beaver Dam Police Department.

Police said an officer attempted a traffic stop at 11:52 p.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Madison and Rowell streets. The driver didn’t stop and went south on Madison Street at speeds near 80 mph.

The officer said the chase continued outside the city on County Road G where speeds reached 95 mph. The chase continued on County Road DE and Forest Road when the vehicle crashed near the entrance to a trailer park at N7253 Forest Road. Numerous mailboxes were damaged in the crash, according to police.

The chase lasted four minutes and covered more than four miles.

The driver fled on foot and was found in a nearby trailer and taken into custody, according to police. A blood alcohol test give at the scene showed the man had a blood alcohol content of 0.197.

The man was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, eluding police, failure to stop at a flashing red light, failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding and on a probation hold.
