Plans proceed for Wisconsin IKEA store expected in summer 2018
OAK CREEK, Wis. — Ikea store leaders said the plan to put an Ikea in Oak Creek next year is on track.
Home furnishing retailer Ikea said in a news release Wednesday that it chose Pepper Construction to manage the development project.
The store in Oak Creek will feature 50 inspirational room settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 300-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties, like meatballs with lingonberries, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a Children’s IKEA area in the showroom, baby care rooms and play areas throughout the store.
According to the news release, the construction phase will provide more than 500 jobs, and the store will employ about 250 workers when it opens.
Ikea Oak Creek, to be built on 29 acres near the northwestern corner of Interstate 94 and Drexel Avenue, will also have about 1,000 parking spaces. Store-design plans are similar to architectural designs for which IKEA stores are known worldwide, the company said.
Founded in 1943, Ikea has more than 390 stores in 48 counties. Forty-three stores are in the United States.
Ikea announced the plan to build in Oak Creek last May .
